The Learning Resource Center is offering summer enrichment programs for the 2016 season for kindergarten through high school grade levels. Scroll down to find the level you’re seeking below.

Kindergarten


Rising and repeating kindergartners can gain the skills necessary for school at LRC’s
Camp READY! featuring multi-sensory learning experiences in a fun, engaging format at ten locations throughout Polk County. On average, Camp READY! students who attend the full program demonstrate learning gains of seven months in vocabulary development. Camp READY! dates are June 13-July 29, 2016. Each camp will take place Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. for four weeks except for Poinciana and Ft. Meade camps, which will take place Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Dates vary by location. The cost is $25 for the entire month.
 

Elementary


Students entering 1st- 5th grade are invited to PEP Summer Camps in Winter Haven. A collaboration between LRC, Polk County Public Schools and the Winter Haven Public Education Partnership, this enrichment program will offer students three week-long camps at the PEP Center or Inwood Elementary. Camps will focus on science, sports and art & music with math and reading components and will take place from 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m., Monday-Thursday on June 13-30, 2016. The cost is $25 per week.
 
Students who have completed kindergarten through 5th grade are encouraged to attend Super Summer Success, an enrichment program that helps students maintain their mental momentum through the summer with a fun and active approach to reading, writing and math. Super Summer Success will take place June 20-July 14, 2016 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. at South McKeel Academy in Lakeland. The full cost is $395.
 

Middle School


Middle school students may consider Study Habits of Successful Students for motivational strategies and study techniques to become a more effective learner. Lessons will include: Get Motivated, Listen Up and Take Notes, Set Goals to Achieve, Read Actively, Manage Your Time, Become Test-Wise. This study skills course will take place July 11-15 from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. at the Learning Resource Center in Lakeland. The cost is $145.
 

High School


High school students can “get the competitive edge” with College Success Planning. Students enrolled in this course will learn and practice time-tested, effective, and efficient study strategies, as well as concrete techniques to gain the competitive edge necessary for high school and college. College Success Planning will take place July 11-15 from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. at the Learning Resource Center in Lakeland. The cost is $145.
 
High School students will benefit from LRC’s ACT and SAT summer test preparation courses. Preparation courses are designed to build confident, successful students, helping them achieve their best possible score through problem-solving strategies tailored towards each test. The ACT Summer Preparation Course will take place July 18-22, 2016 at the Learning Resource Center, while the SAT Summer Preparation Course will take place July 25-29, 2016 at the Learning Resource Center in Lakeland. The cost of each full course is $440.
 

Scholarships & Registration

Celebrate the Learning Resource Center of Polk County, Inc.’s 40th Anniversary while helping children and families in the community at the annual For the Love…of Learning benefit on February 20, 2016.

Join this evening of celebration and cause with festivities that include entertainment from The Sofa Kings, a world-class silent auction, and food catered by Terrie Lobb with the purpose of raising scholarship funds for students enrolled in LRC programs.
 
The Polk County nonprofit hopes to top 2015’s fundraiser, which raised over $21,000 in scholarship funds and assisted more than 25 deserving students.
 
This year’s event will take place at the spectacular Krakowski Family Home in Lakeland’s Grasslands from 7-10 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2016. Jennifer Leigh of Channel 8 News will serve as the mistress of ceremonies.
 
Guests can purchase tickets to the benefit on LRCLoveofLearning.com for $65.00 (or $50.00 for LRC employees). Other ways to support the cause include becoming a sponsor, bestowing a scholarship, donating a silent auction item or contributing to the LRC Endowment Fund within the GiveWell Community Foundation.

For over 40 years, the Learning Resource Center of Polk County, Inc., as a non-profit supplemental education agency, has addressed the academic needs throughout Polk County by providing one-to-one tutoring services to children and adults, small group instruction for remediation and enrichment, and the flexibility to offer quality programs to help all students maximize their learning potential.

1. 2015 marks LRC’s 40th year as a non-profit providing high quality academic programs designed to help all students maximize their learning potential.

2. LRC offers services to Polk County and other surrounding counties.

3. LRC employs over 500 certified teachers who provide countywide services to more than 4,000 students ages five through adult.
4. LRC is accredited by AdvancED’s Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

5. Kindergarten through adult students can participate in year-round One-to-One tutoring designed to meet each student’s individual academic needs through personalized, convenient schedules.

6. LRC hosts 14 summer programs (in addition to One-to-One tutoring) geared towards kindergarten through high school students.

 

7. In summer 2015, LRC hosted nine kindergarten learning camps known as Camp READY! at locations in North and South Lakeland, Ft. Meade, Haines City, Bartow, Winter Haven, Lake Wales, Frostproof, and Poinciana.

8. On average, Camp READY! students who attend the full program demonstrate learning gains of SEVEN months in vocabulary development from pre- to post-assessment—quite an accomplishment for a five-year-old.

 

9. With support from United Way of Central Florida, grants, and generous contributions from private donors, LRC ensures that any deserving student who needs and wants academic help can receive it by offering scholarships and a Sliding Fee Scale.

 

10. LRC holds community partnerships with United Way of Central Florida, Polk County Public Schools, GiveWell Community Foundation, Publix Supermarket Charities, Heartland for Children, and the Lakeland Rotary Club.
