Learning Resource Center of Polk County Celebrates 50 Years!

On Saturday, December 6, 2025, the community gathered at the beautiful Junior League of Greater Lakeland’s Sorosis Building on Lake Morton to celebrate a milestone that represents far more than a number: 50 years of learning, growth, and impact through the Learning Resource Center.

Since 1975, LRC has supported thousands of children across Polk County through tutoring, enrichment programs, and specialized educational services. This golden anniversary was both a celebration of that legacy and a bold look ahead to the next 50 years of empowering students.

An Afternoon of Reflection and Celebration

Guests enjoyed an elegant and joyful atmosphere filled with meaningful moments. A signature bubbly cocktail and beautifully presented hors d’oeuvres by TLC Catering set the tone, followed by birthday cake in honor of five decades of service.

One of the most powerful features of the event was the Legacy Wall—a moving display of historic photographs and news clippings dating back 40 to 50 years. Guests lingered as they traced LRC’s story through images of classrooms, early board members, student successes, and milestones that shaped the organization’s journey.

In the photo gallery below, you’ll see photos of:

  • Friends and supporters enjoying the celebration inside the historic Sorosis Building
  • Current and former LRC students whose lives have been impacted by the organization
  • Dedicated staff and board members—past and present—who have stewarded the mission
  • Warm embraces, shared laughter, and the kind of connection that only comes from a shared commitment to children

Honoring Leadership & Student Success

A special moment of the afternoon included recognition of past Board of Trustees members and Directors whose leadership laid the foundation for LRC’s growth. Their vision and dedication continue to echo in every child served today.

We were also honored by a special appearance from Polk County Public Schools Superintendent Frederick Heid, reinforcing the importance of partnership in ensuring students across Polk County have access to the resources they need to thrive.

Most importantly, we celebrated former LRC students and their achievements—living proof that early academic support can change the trajectory of a life.

Investing in the Next 50 Years

The celebration was not only a reflection on the past, but a commitment to the future.

As you browse the photo gallery, we invite you to see more than just a beautiful event. See the legacy. See the lives changed. See the future being built—one child at a time.

Here’s to 50 years of impact… and to the many more ahead.
