THANK YOU for making Giving Tuesday a success!

Thank you for supporting LRC's GED Students on Giving Tuesday

Thank you for your donations, support, and interactions on Giving Tuesday! Our community rallied to raise more than $4,000 to support students who are working hard to earn their GEDs. Wendell Powell, who started the GED program, said, “Each student in this program has a drive within them. They just need a chance to light that fire.” You gave them that chance!

You did more than donate to a scholarship fund. You gave money directly to students who are working hard to balance their jobs and families while they earn their GED.

There are few things as beautiful as watching our community rally around students who are working hard to advance their education. Thank you for supporting them.

Keep an eye out for another update about what you helped achieve on Giving Tuesday. In the meantime, the Learning Resource Center staff will be busy celebrating you and your generosity.

Happy holidays from the LRC team!

If you didn’t have a chance to donate to our GED program, it’s not too late—you can still make a gift! For the rest of December, we’re focused on supporting adult students who are working toward a degree that will open new doors and allow new opportunities.

#GivingTuesday

You know about Black Friday, you know about Cyber Monday—do you know about Giving Tuesday? It’s an international day of giving that was established in 2012, and it’s happening on December 1. We invite you to mark your calendars and participate with us!

LRC’s Initiative

This year, the Learning Resource Center is celebrating the day by raising money for our GED program, which offers one-to-one tutoring and support for students in our community who are studying to attain their GED.

Get Involved

There are tons of ways to get involved! Donate to our GED fund, spread the word about our fundraiser, and keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter accounts for stories from our GED students about how your support can make a difference in their lives.

We, at the Learning Resource Center, want to thank this wonderful community. We are truly grateful for each penny, email, Facebook post, article, mention, phone call and invitation that brought us to the total donation of $5,940.00.

The Giving Match 2016 campaign began on November 29, 2016, also known as #GivingTuesday which is a national day designated for giving, and continued through Friday, December 2, 2016. Over those four days, the Polk County community came together, helping our organization earn more than $5,000. Libertore Fund for Children, a local organization with a mission to make a difference in the lives of at-risk children, matched each amount, dollar-for-dollar, up to $5,000 thanks to an anonymous donor.

On Tuesday, December 6, Lana Swartzwelder of the Libertore Fund for Children presented a check with the Fund’s match of $5,000.00 for an amazing total of $10,940.00.

The monies are now earmarked for a new server to replace our rebuilt, 10-year old equipment. Rarely is LRC able to use contract or grant funds for capital needs. It is only through an opportunity like this that we can update or replace the infrastructure that highly correlates with quality service, valuable programs, successful clients and fiscally-sound management.

Two years ago, the AdvancED/SACS Accreditation Team noted that technology (server included) was the one glaring need for improvement in an otherwise highly stellar evaluation report. If it were not for you and your generosity, this nonprofit would not be able to continue to make the differences in lives as it has done every day for 41 years. We truly appreciate YOU!

#GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support. This year the initiative will take place on Tuesday, December 1, 2015.

Those who are interested in joining us for the LRC #GivingTuesday initiative can make a donation online at https://secure.qgiv.com/for/lrcpolk. The donations we receive will help further our cause in helping deserving students receive the educational help that they need and providing students the opportunity to reach their maximum potential.
